Yes, exactly! The characters are what brings life to the world and good world-building is pretty much one of my kinks. I love the little details the drama gave us about it through the characters like, say, web-novels existing and authors being able to make a living off them.

I'm doing a reread at the moment and it's such a delight! And all that's missing now is about half the final chapter and that should be done within the next week or so. And then hopefully some very, very kind person might compile it (the current translators have mentioned doing this) because it's currently in about eight different bits on different sites.

Li Qian, whose life was terrible but then she came out on top instead of just disappearing after two episodes.

I love her arc so much. But your point in general, too, that the show generally brings back the side charas. I love how so many of them crawl out of the woodwork in the final episodes to help fight against Ye Zun.

I don't usually find myself attracted to villains on a show (maybe it's my inability to relate to their behaviour? idk)

This, this is me! Even when a villain is objectively attractive (Ye Zun, Xue Yang) is just can't appreciate it because the personality overshadows everything. Okay, for those two in particular, it's not just the 'evil' that turns me off but also the 'demonstrably insane'. But my point in general stands. I end up calling the well-intentioned villains (wig boy etc) my favourites because they may not be pretty but they're at least not all bad.

CGI!DaQing jumping on the table at the SID, because why even have that be a special effect? I am intrigued by why the didn't just get the cat to jump on the table, and the thought of them trying and the cat just noping out amuses me.

Nooooo! Tell meeeeee! I'm always intrigued by obscure languages. And I just love knowing that this fandom has such a wide spread of people in it, not just all from boring anglophone or indo-European backgrounds.

I like how quickly they went from the "courtship" phase to the "old married couple" phase, and I love how mature and sensible they were about it.

Absolutely! At points where other shows might have spun off into sulking and lack of communication, this one just lets the characters talk and handle things, or simply respect each other's boundaries. So wonderfully mature.

I like Ye Zun as an antagonist. But I'm not interested in seeing him being redeemed and I'm definitely not interested in shipping him with anyone.

I've come to realise over the years that when it comes to characters, my #1 requirement is actually that they have a strong sense of Integrity. (eg. Steve Rogers)

No matter how physically attractive a character might be, a lack of Integrity is the ultimate turn-off for me. It just leaves me cold. :/

(I really like how this particular character trait was explored in The Untamed. Despite outward appearances, WWX's sense of integrity is rock solid. It's the stoic and righteous LWJ who struggles and starts to question what is "Right", what is "Good". And then he learns to listens to his own Truth and has the courage to follow that path.)

This. So, so this! I've always felt like some kind of weirdo in fandom because one of the cornerstones seems to be, "Ship the hot villain with the protagonist!" (Harry Potter fandom...
